Year in Review gives each signed-in supporter a personalized recap of their giving to your organization for a calendar year. It includes an animated, full-screen story and a summary page with giving totals, a monthly chart, designations, and relevant impact content. You choose which slides to show, change their wording, and add your own messages, images, and videos. The experience uses your portal’s theme colors. An optional AI-generated summary can describe the causes and stories connected to the supporter’s giving.

Enable Year in Review

Year in Review requires Portal V2 and is off by default. If your organization has not enabled Portal V2, contact WeGive and follow Migrating from Portal V1 to Portal V2. Existing V1 links do not automatically become V2 links.
  1. Open Portal Settings in the admin dashboard. You can find it through dashboard search.
  2. Select Advanced Settings → Year in Review.
  3. Configure the Slides section using the options below. To review the experience before launch, leave Show Year in Review to supporters off while preparing your slides.
  4. Click Save Changes, review the changes, and confirm Save changes.
  5. Under Share & Preview, click Preview with sample data. Save edits before opening or refreshing the preview; it loads the saved configuration.
  6. When ready, turn on Show Year in Review to supporters, then save and confirm again.
  7. Copy the Supporter link and open it while signed in to a supporter account to check the actual experience. Use that link in your own emails or website links.
If the enable toggle is disabled, Portal V2 has not been enabled for the organization. The separate AI recap slide does not need to be available for the rest of Year in Review to work. Enabling Year in Review makes it available in the portal. It does not send an announcement email to supporters.

How supporters find and use it

  • Signed-in supporters can open Your Year in Review from the portal navigation whenever the feature is enabled.
  • From December 1 through January 31, their profile also displays a See your [year] Year in Review link. That seasonal promotion does not limit access during the rest of the year.
  • The copied Supporter link ends in /year-in-review. Append a year, such as /year-in-review/2025, to link to a specific calendar year. Keep the rest of the copied address intact.
  • Without a year in the link, January shows the previous year; other months show the current year to date. Supporters can use Previous year and Next year when available.
  • The animated story opens for supporters with included gifts that year. They can tap or use arrow keys to move, hold to pause, choose Skip to reach the summary page, and select Play your story to replay it.
  • A supporter with no included gifts sees No gifts recorded in [year] instead of the animated story.
The Supporter link requires sign-in and shows the viewer’s own supporter record. It is not a public link to another donor’s giving.

Customize the slides

In Slides, drag the handle beside a slide to change its position, use its toggle to hide or show it, and select Edit to change the available text fields. Leave a text field blank to use the default wording. Thank you always stays last and cannot be switched off. Built-in slides can be hidden; custom slides can also be deleted. The saved list supports up to 30 entries including the closing slide. Impact numbers and highlights can expand into multiple slides during playback.

Personalize the wording

The editor lists the variables supported by each slide. Most editable built-in text fields support {name}, {year}, {nextYear}, and {org}. Some also support: For example, an Intro headline could be: Look what you made possible with {org} in {year}.

Add your own content

Click Add custom slide, enter a title, and add content in the rich-text editor. The title supports {name}, {year}, {nextYear}, and {org}. In the content editor, type @ to insert supporter variables such as first name. Custom slides with empty content are skipped, even if they have a title. They wait for the supporter to advance, which allows time to read a longer message or watch a video. The initial A note from {org} slide is empty until you add content. Use supported YouTube or Vimeo embeds for videos. Access-token, automatic portal-login, and tax-document-generation variables are removed from custom slides; use a regular link for a destination you want supporters to visit.

What the slide settings control

Slide order and wording apply to the animated story. The summary page keeps its own layout and standard headings; it does not adopt the story’s ordering or all wording overrides. Its optional fundraising, impact, highlights, monthly chart, designation, story, and AI sections follow the corresponding slide toggles. Enabled custom content appears as cards. The summary page still displays Total given and Gifts even if you hide the Total given slide. The closing giving button uses the portal’s default checkout; there is no separate checkout picker in the Year in Review editor.

Where the information comes from

Year in Review reads records already stored in WeGive. It does not fetch fresh information directly from your CRM when the supporter opens the page. Imported or synchronized gifts can appear once they exist on the relevant supporter record and meet the same inclusion rules. Amounts use the stored transaction amount. The display rounds currency to whole US dollars; it does not show cents or switch to a donor’s original payment currency. Because pending and processing records can count, this is not a settled-payments-only report or a replacement for an annual tax statement. For example, an impact number configured as $5 per meal** and a yearly giving total of **$400 produces 80 meals. This is an estimate derived from your configured ratio, not a separately measured outcome or a calculation limited to gifts to one particular designation.

When highlights appear

  • Top giver: the supporter qualifies for a top 1%, 5%, or 10% bucket, donor ranking is enabled, and at least 20 donors have included gifts in that year. Smaller populations may not have every bucket.
  • Giving streak: at least three consecutive months with positive giving in the selected year.
  • Growth: at least 10% more giving than the previous year, with a nonzero previous-year total.
  • Causes: at least three designations in the included breakdown.

How the optional AI recap works

The AI recap requires AI to be enabled for your organization, the AI recap slide to be on, and included gifts for that supporter in the selected year. Contact WeGive if your organization needs AI enabled or the recap remains unavailable. It summarizes the leading designation and campaign names, eligible impact-story titles and excerpts, and subject lines of outgoing journey messages recorded for that supporter during the year. It does not use every newsletter, internal journey names, or full email bodies. The generated text is labeled AI-generated summary and is instructed to use the supplied content without inventing outcomes or restating financial figures. Generation happens in the background, so the rest of the review can appear before the recap. During an ongoing year, saved recaps become eligible for refresh after seven days. A recap generated after that year ends is retained rather than automatically rewritten for later data changes. Use a custom slide for an organization-authored message you want to control directly.

Preview and troubleshoot

The sample preview uses your saved slide settings and organization name with fictional giving data. It contains no real impact numbers, impact stories, or AI recap, and it does not resolve real supporter merge fields. Check those items with an actual supporter account after enabling the feature. To turn the feature off, disable Show Year in Review to supporters and save. This removes its portal entry points and makes the personal review unavailable, while retaining the saved slide configuration.
