Enabling multi-currency selection
You can optionally let donors choose a different currency at checkout. To enable this, turn on Accept multiple currencies in your checkout or event settings. Once enabled, donors see a currency selector on the giving page with a full list of supported global currencies. When multi-currency selection is not enabled, donors see only your organization’s configured currency — no selector appears. How currency conversion works
When a donor selects a currency different from your organization’s configured currency, WeGive converts the amount in real time using a live exchange rate.- The donor sees and enters their gift amount in the currency they selected.
- The actual charge and settlement happen in your organization’s configured currency.
- If the exchange rate cannot be retrieved, the currency selection reverts to the previous value and the donor sees an error message.
Frequently asked questions
Does the donor’s currency get auto-detected? No. The default is always your organization’s configured currency. Donors must manually select a different currency if multi-currency is enabled. Does enabling multi-currency change my payout currency? No. Your payouts and reporting remain in your organization’s configured currency regardless of what currency a donor uses at checkout. What currencies are available? When multi-currency is enabled, donors can choose from a comprehensive list of major and regional currencies. The available list is the same for all checkouts.← Back to Giving
