Using the Virtual Terminal: Adding Supporter Information
The Virtual Terminal uses a two-step process: first you identify the supporter (the person or company making the gift), then you enter payment details. This guide covers Step 1 — Supporter Information.Choosing a supporter
When you open the Virtual Terminal, you start on the Supporter Information step. You have two options:Option 1: Search for an existing supporter
By default, the Virtual Terminal shows a search field. Type a supporter’s name or email to find them in your system. Select the correct supporter from the results, then click Continue to proceed to payment.Option 2: Create a new supporter
Toggle on Create New Supporter to enter a brand-new supporter’s information. Select the supporter type: Individual — fill in these required fields:- First Name
- Last Name
- Email (must be a valid email address)
- Company Name
- Phone number
- Mailing address
What happens when you click Continue
- For a new supporter: the system checks whether a supporter with that email address already exists. If one is found, it uses the existing record (no duplicate is created). If no match exists, a new supporter record is created with the information you entered.
- For an existing supporter: the system uses the supporter you selected from the search.
Pre-filled information
If your Virtual Terminal link was generated with supporter information already included (such as name, email, or address), those fields are automatically filled in and the form starts in “Create New Supporter” mode. You can review and adjust the pre-filled information before clicking Continue. If the link includes a specific supporter, Step 1 is skipped entirely and you go straight to payment.Sources
