Overview

A common question from organizations looking to grow recurring revenue over time: can WeGive automatically increase a donor’s recurring gift amount each year by a set percentage (for example, “+5% every year”) without the donor taking any action? No — WeGive does not have an automatic recurring-amount-escalation feature today. There is no setting, schedule, or background process that raises an existing recurring plan’s amount on its own.

What WeGive does have: a one-time conversion prompt

WeGive’s checkout includes a recurring-conversion prompt — a one-time screen shown to a one-time donor at the moment they complete their gift, inviting them to start (or adjust) a recurring plan at a percentage of the amount they just gave (for example, “give 10% of this amount monthly instead”). This prompt:
  • Appears once, at the moment of checkout conversion.
  • Lets the donor choose from percentage/frequency options your organization configures.
  • Has no further effect once the donor accepts or declines it — it does not run again against an already-existing recurring plan, and it is not a recurring, periodic increase.
This is the closest feature WeGive has to “percentage-based recurring giving,” but it’s a one-time upsell moment, not an ongoing escalation mechanism.

What this means for your organization

If you want to encourage donors to increase their recurring gifts over time, today that requires a manual or communications-driven approach — for example:
  • Periodically reaching out to recurring donors and asking them to update their plan amount themselves (from the donor portal or by request to your team).
  • Using your own outreach/email campaigns to prompt an increase, then having staff or the donor make the change in WeGive.
An existing recurring plan’s amount only ever changes when a donor or staff member explicitly edits it — WeGive does not do this automatically on any schedule.
