Overview

Your WeGive organization actually has two separate payment methods, and updating one does not update the other — even though both appear on the same Settings > Billing page.

Two separate payment methods

  1. Your dashboard payment method. This is the card or bank account used for your organization’s own donation and transaction processing.
  2. Your Orb subscription payment method. This is used specifically to charge your organization’s WeGive platform subscription invoices. It’s stored and managed entirely within Orb, WeGive’s billing partner, and is completely separate from the card shown on your dashboard’s payment method section.
Updating the payment method shown on your dashboard’s Billing page never updates the payment method Orb charges for your subscription invoice. These two payment methods are stored in different systems and nothing connects them automatically.

Why this matters

If your subscription invoice fails to charge — for example, after your card on file with Orb expires or is declined — updating your dashboard payment method will not fix it. Orb keeps attempting to charge whatever payment method it already has on file for your subscription, regardless of any changes you make to your dashboard payment method.

How to fix a failed subscription invoice charge

To update the payment method for a specific subscription invoice:
  1. Go to Settings > Billing in your WeGive dashboard.
  2. Find the invoice in question in your invoice history.
  3. Click the invoice to open its hosted invoice page (opens in a new tab).
  4. Update your payment method directly on that page.
Updating payment on the invoice’s own hosted page is the only way to change what your subscription charges, and doing so also restores automatic payment for future subscription invoices.
