You can edit a journey while supporters are enrolled. When a saved change removes a step that currently has supporters on it, WeGive asks you to decide where those supporters should go before saving. This applies when you delete a step, replace it with a new step, or remove a branch containing several steps. Each removed step with current supporters needs its own choice. Simply editing a step’s content does not require a relocation choice if the step stays in the journey. For initial setup, see Creating a Journey with WeGive.

Remove or replace a step

  1. Open the journey from Journeys and enter the builder.
  2. Make your changes. If you want supporters to continue at a new replacement step, add that step before saving and give it a clear name.
  3. Save the journey. If any removed steps have current supporters, Where should these supporters go? opens.
  4. Review the removed step’s name and supporter count, then choose one of the actions below.
  5. Use Next step to make a choice for each affected step, then select Review choices.
  6. On Confirm supporter changes, review every source step, count, and action. Use Change to revise a choice, or Back to revisit the previous screen.
  7. Select Confirm and save journey to save the changes.
Cancel closes the review without saving. Your edits remain in the builder so you can adjust the flow and try again. There is no default move or removal choice.

Choose what happens to current supporters

Destinations must remain in the journey after this save. Newly added steps are available and marked (new); you do not need to save the replacement first. A step you are deleting cannot be a destination, and you cannot use this picker to move supporters to another journey. If no steps remain, the move option is unavailable. You can remove the supporters from the journey, or cancel and add a destination step. Choosing an earlier step may repeat messages or actions the supporter already completed. Review the path from the destination onward before confirming.

What happens to timing

A move preserves a supporter’s future scheduled processing time. It does not automatically send the destination message as soon as you save. Supporters whose processing time has already passed, or who have no pending time, are scheduled to resume shortly. The destination step and the journey’s normal processing rules still apply. For example, if a supporter is scheduled for Thursday and you move them from an old email step to a new replacement, their scheduled processing remains Thursday. If you move them back to a welcome email they already received, that email may be sent again when they reach it. Supporter moves and exits are applied in the background. The journey can report a successful save before every affected enrollment has finished updating. An action already in progress may finish before its supporter is relocated; saving an edit does not recall messages already sent or cancel an action already underway. The changes are recorded in the journey’s audit log as processing completes.

Resolve a save problem

The supporter counts changed. A live journey can advance supporters while you review. If WeGive reports that supporters on the removed steps have changed, save again to load current counts and review your choices again. Your previous choices are not silently applied to a different count. A destination is unavailable. Choose a step that remains in this journey, or cancel and add the replacement before saving again. A step no longer belongs to the journey. Another edit may have changed the saved flow. Note your intended changes, reload the journey, and reconcile them with the current version. A previous change needs attention. Contact support if this message prevents another save. Include the journey name and the steps you changed so the team can investigate the pending supporter moves.

Before you confirm

  • Check every removed branch, including steps downstream from a deleted logic step.
  • Name replacement steps clearly so their destinations are easy to identify.
  • Review timing and any messages or actions that could repeat.
  • Confirm that Remove supporters from this journey is intentional for every step using that option.
If you are only adding a step, supporters are not automatically moved to it by this review. Their current position and the saved flow determine whether they will encounter it.
