Understanding Donation Statuses in Your Giving History

When you log into the Donor Portal and view your Donation History, each transaction shows a status icon and label. This article explains what each status means and what you can do with each type of transaction.

Donation Statuses

Viewing Transaction Details

Click any transaction in your history to see its full details, including:
  • Donation amount and type (tax deductible or non-tax deductible)
  • Status shown as a colored badge
  • Transaction ID for reference
  • Date Initiated and Date Processed
  • Frequency (one-time or recurring)
  • Designation (which fund the gift was directed to)
  • Payment method used

Partially Refunded Transactions

For partially refunded donations, the detail view provides extra information:
  • Current Amount — the remaining donation amount after the partial refund
  • Original Amount — shown with a strikethrough, so you can see what you originally gave
  • Refunded Amount — exactly how much was returned to your payment method

Downloading Receipts

You can download a receipt for donations with a Received or Partially Refunded status by clicking the Download Receipt button in the transaction detail view. Receipts are not available for failed, fully refunded, disputed, or still-processing donations.

Household Giving History

If your organization has household/group management enabled, your Donation History includes tabs for each household you belong to. Switch tabs to see transactions from other household members. The status indicators work the same way across individual and household views.

What to Do If a Donation Shows an Unexpected Status

  • Failed donations are never charged — your payment method was not debited. You can try donating again with an updated payment method.
  • Processing or Pending donations usually resolve on their own. If a donation stays in this state for more than a few business days, contact the organization for help.
  • Refunded or Partially Refunded amounts are returned to your original payment method. Allow 5–10 business days for the refund to appear on your statement, depending on your bank.
If you have questions about a specific transaction, use the chat feature in the portal (if available) or contact the organization directly.
