When a payment fails or is declined, WeGive captures the reason from your payment processor and displays it on the transaction’s detail page. This guide shows you where to find that information and what to do with it.

How to find the failure reason

  1. In your dashboard, go to Payments in the sidebar.
  2. Locate the failed transaction in your payments list. You can use the status filter to show only failed transactions.
  3. Click the transaction to open its detail page.
  4. Look for the Error Message field near the top of the page, below the status and amount. This field shows the reason the payment was declined — for example, “The account has insufficient funds” or “The card has expired.”
  5. You will also see a Processor ID field. This is the payment processor’s reference number for the transaction, which can be useful if you need to contact your processor for additional details.

Important notes

  • The Error Message only appears on failed or declined transactions. If a transaction succeeded, this field is not shown.
  • Failure reasons are not included in payment exports. If you export your payments list, the export file does not contain the error or decline reason. To see why a specific payment failed, you need to open that transaction’s detail page individually.
  • For Finix failure codes, see Finix Failure Codes for a full list of codes and what each one means.
