# Understanding Abbreviated Numbers on Message Performance Metrics

> The WeGive dashboard displays message performance counts (sent, delivered, opened, clicked) in abbreviated form — for example, 1.2k instead of 1,200. This page explains the formatting and how to access exact numbers.

# Understanding Abbreviated Numbers on Message Performance Metrics

When viewing message performance on the WeGive dashboard, engagement
counters such as sent, delivered, opened, clicked, errored, and
unsubscribed are displayed in abbreviated form for readability.

## How numbers are formatted

| Actual value | Displayed as |
| - | - |
| Under 1,000 | Exact number (e.g., **842**) |
| 1,000 – 999,999 | Abbreviated with "k" (e.g., **1.2k** for 1,200) |
| 1,000,000+ | Abbreviated with "M" (e.g., **3.5M** for 3,500,000) |

Abbreviated values always show one decimal place. For example, 15,732
displays as **15.7k** and 2,345,678 displays as **2.3M**.

## Can I see the exact numbers?

The dashboard does not currently offer a toggle to switch between
abbreviated and exact number views. If you need precise counts for
reporting:

* **Use the API**: the `GET /api/messages/{id}` endpoint returns the
  exact integer values for `messages_sent`, `delivered`, `opened`,
  `clicked`, `error`, and `unsubscribed`.
* **Export your data**: use the reporting export feature to download
message performance data with full numeric precision.
* **Hover over the metric** (where supported): some dashboard views
show the exact value in a tooltip.
