# Filtering Audit Logs by What Changed (the "Included Changes" Filter)

> The Audit Logs "Changes" (dashboard) / "Included Changes" (legacy dashboard) filter lets you find every change to a specific field on a specific type of record — for example, every recurring plan whose amount or payment method changed. This is a general-purpose filter that works for any tracked field, not just one specific use case.

# Filtering Audit Logs by What Changed

Audit Logs tracks changes made to records in your WeGive account — who
changed something, when, and what the value was before and after. Beyond
just browsing the list, you can filter it down to only the changes that
matter to you using the **Changes** filter (called **Included Changes**
in the legacy dashboard).

## What the Changes filter does

Instead of scrolling through every audit entry for a record type and
checking each one by eye, the Changes filter lets you ask directly: "only
show me entries where this specific field changed." You give it a field
name, and it returns only the audit log rows where that field actually
had a recorded change — not just any update to the record.

This is a general mechanism — it works for any field that WeGive tracks
changes for, on any record type available in Audit Logs. Two common
examples:

* **Did a recurring plan's payment method change?** Set **Model** to
**Recurring Plan** and **Changes** (or **Included Changes**) to
  `payment_method_id`.
* **Did a recurring plan's amount increase or decrease?** Set **Model**
to **Recurring Plan** and **Changes** (or **Included Changes**) to
  `amount`.

You're not limited to these two — any tracked field name can be used the
same way to narrow down exactly what kind of change you're looking for.

## How to use it

1. Go to **Audit Logs** in your dashboard.
2. Set the **Model** filter to the record type you're investigating (for
   example, **Recurring Plan**).
3. Add the **Changes** filter (in the legacy dashboard, this is under
advanced filters and labeled **Included Changes**) and enter the field
name you want to check — for example, `amount` or `payment_method_id`.
4. The results will only include audit entries where that specific field
had a recorded change, letting you skip past unrelated updates to the
   same record.

## A note on recurring plan amount changes

If you need to see *how much* a plan's amount changed by (rather than
just confirming that it changed), the Changes filter combined with
**Model = Recurring Plan** and **Changes = amount** will show you every
entry where an amount change happened, along with the before/after values
on that entry. There is currently no bulk export or report that lists
amount-change deltas across many plans at once — if you need that kind of
summary across a large number of recurring plans, reach out to WeGive
Support with what you're trying to accomplish.

## Need help?

If you're not sure what field name to use for the record type you're
investigating, or the filter isn't returning what you expect, reach out
to WeGive Support with the record type and the specific change you're
trying to find — we can help confirm the right field name to filter on.
