# Creating a Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser on Behalf of a Supporter

> WeGive Help Center article: how staff can set up a peer-to-peer fundraiser for a supporter who can't do it themselves

Most peer-to-peer (P2P) fundraisers are created by your supporters
themselves, from their donor portal. But not every supporter wants to —
or can — set one up on their own. If a supporter calls in or emails
asking for help getting a fundraising page started, your team can
create it for them directly from the dashboard.

## Who this is for

This path is a good fit for supporters who run into an accessibility or
tech-comfort barrier with the self-service flow — for example, someone
who doesn't want to create a donor portal login, isn't comfortable
navigating the portal on their own, or would simply rather have your
team set it up and send them the link.

## Before you begin

Just like self-service P2P setup, you'll want:

* The **campaign** this fundraiser should roll up to.
* A **P2P preset** configured with the checkout, fund, and branding you
want the fundraiser to use (see "Setting Up Peer-to-Peer Fundraising"
if you haven't created one yet).
* The supporter's existing donor or household record in WeGive (search
for them by name or email — if they're new, add them as a supporter
  first).

## Step 1: Open the Fundraisers area

In your dashboard, go to **Elements → Fundraisers** (listed as **"P2P
Fundraisers"** in the left navigation). Click the blue **+** button to
create a new fundraiser.

## Step 2: Assign the fundraiser owner

On the create form, set **Owner type** to either **Donor** or
**Household**, then search for and select the supporter's record. This
is the field that makes the fundraiser "theirs" — once saved, it behaves
exactly like a fundraiser the supporter created themselves, including
showing up on their donor portal profile if they ever do log in.

## Step 3: Fill in the rest of the fundraiser

Complete the remaining fields the same way you would for any
fundraiser:

* **P2P fundraiser name** — what the page is called.
* **Campaign** — the campaign this rolls up to.
* **Campaign fundraiser** (optional) — pick this if the fundraiser
should join an existing team/parent fundraiser.
* **Designation** — the fund donations should route to (if not already
  set by the preset).
* **Goal**, **start date**, and **end date**.
* **Background image** and **description** — the story and visuals for
  the page.
* **Show leader board** / **Show activity** / **Hide fundraise button**
/ **Allow donations after end date** — the same display and behavior
  toggles available on self-service fundraisers.

## Step 4: Share the fundraiser with the supporter

Once saved, open the fundraiser and copy its public link (or QR code, if
available) to send to the supporter. They can view and share their page
immediately — no portal login required. If the supporter later wants to
manage the page themselves, they can do so from their donor portal once
they have a login, the same as any other P2P fundraiser owner.

## Frequently asked questions

**Does a staff-created fundraiser work differently from one a supporter
creates themselves?**
No. Once created, it's the same kind of fundraiser — same donation
flow, same reporting, same email journeys (like fundraiser-created or
goal-met notifications). The only difference is who filled out the
create form.

**Can I change the owner later?**
Yes — open the fundraiser's edit screen and update the owner the same
way you set it initially.

**What if the supporter doesn't have a WeGive record yet?**
Add them as a supporter (donor or household) first, then follow the
steps above — you'll be able to search for and select their new record
as the owner.
