# Create and Customize Your Events

> WeGive Help Center article: Create and Customize Your Events

Events in WeGive let you collect registrations and donations for both virtual and in-person gatherings. This guide walks you through creating an event and configuring every setting available in the event Settings panel.

## Step 1: Create Your Event

1. From the **Events** section, click to create a new event. The **Create Event** modal will open.
2. Fill in the required details:

   * **Event Name** — Enter the public name of your event.
   * **Giving Checkout** — Search for and select the checkout used to process event donations. The checkout is not used for registrations or ticket purchases, but for additional donations collected from the event.
   * **Start Date & Time** — Select when your event begins.
   * **End Date & Time** — Select when your event ends.
   * **Timezone** — Choose the event's timezone (e.g., Central Time (CT)).
3. Choose a **Location Type**:

   * **Virtual** — For online events. Guests are sent to an online event URL.
   * **In Person** — For venue-based events. Collect registrations for a physical location.
4. Enter location details based on your choice:

   * **If Virtual:** Add the **Event URL** (e.g., `https://example.com/event`).
   * **If In Person:** Enter the **Street Address**, **City**, **State**, **Zip**, and **Country**.
5. Click **Create Event**.

Once created, your event opens with three tabs: **Overview**, **Performance**, and **Settings**. A status badge (e.g., **Live**) appears next to the event name, along with quick-copy chips for **ID**, **Event URL**, **Registration URL**, and **CRM ID**.

**Tip:** Use the **Implement** button (top right) to add the event to your site, and the **Archive** button to retire an event when it's over.

## Step 2: Configure Event Settings

Open the **Settings** tab to fine-tune your event. Settings are organized into seven sections in the left sidebar: **Overview**, **Registration**, **Tickets**, **Discount Codes**, **Waiver**, **Questions**, and **Customization**. Remember to click **Save Changes** after editing any section.

### Overview

Manage the core public-facing details of your event.

* **Banner** — Upload an event banner image (JPG). Click to upload or drag and drop.
* **Event Time** — Adjust the **Start Date & Time**, **End Date & Time**, and **Timezone**.
* **Location Type** — Switch between **Virtual** and **In Person**.

11. **Registration Success** — Configure the success card shown after registration: set the success **title** (e.g., "You are registered for the event!") and add a **description** using the rich text editor.
12. Configure post-registration buttons:

After configuring each section, click **Save Changes**. When your event is ready, use the **Implement** button to embed it on your site. Your event's **Registration URL** can be copied from the chip near the event name and shared directly with guests.

## Tips & Best Practices

* **Set up your checkout first** — Events require a Giving Checkout to process payments.
* **Use Max Capacity for limited-space events** — Enforce a hard cap regardless of ticket types.
* **Enable fee cover** to help offset processing costs by letting supporters opt in.
* **Add custom questions** to capture attendee info and map it directly to your CRM.
* **Preview before going live** — Review the registration flow using your event URL before sharing widely.
